7 Inch Tablet: the New Name of the Game
While 2010 was clearly dominated by the ten inch Apple iPad it seems one little 7 inch tablet, the Galaxy TAB 7, has obtained the number 2 position in the top of best sold tablets by offering something completely different from what Apple was proposing.
This was enough for other companies to focus more in 2011 to bring more 7 inch tablet models to market. We now have the Blackberry Playbook running RIM’s QNX OS, the Galaxy TAB 7 Plus, Viewsonic ViewPad 7x, and the cheap Acer Iconia Tab A100.
All these tablets range in price from 300 to 500 bucks, so it’s clear you have to be careful which one you pick. I’m not going to tell you which one to get (my favorite is Samsung’s Galaxy TAB 7 Plus), but tell you what you have to look for when shopping. It will help you more on the long term.
First there’s the operating system. Take a close look at the apps you’re using right now and see if they’re present in the app store of the OS you’re getting. Check the top apps to see what kind of apps you’ll be getting. This way you’ll see that RIM’s QNX has serious problems with common titles, so you might want to skip on the Blackberry Playbook model.
Second there are the specs. Here you have to check things like processor speed, number of cores, RAM memory, internal storage (if it can be extended or not), screen resolution and ultimately battery life. There are the things that matter most.
The final verdict comes from the price. Here’ where you should check out all offers for this year’s end shopping holidays including Black Friday, Unboxing Day and Cyber Monday. All these events will come with huge discounts on available best 7 inch tablet models.
